One of our favorite skin-loving ingredients is often the most surprising to folks: beer. While indulging in too many happy hours will do no favors for your complexion, when applied topically beer can actually brighten skin, fight acne, and condition hair.
What gives beer its superpowers? According to medicaldaily.com, "Beer has a low pH, so it will help to tighten your hair follicles as well as remove dirt and grease from your hair. The froth in beer is also good for fighting acne because of the yeast; it helps slow down sebum production, decreasing pimples." Furthermore, the secret weapon in beer is brewers yeast, which is an inactive fungus, known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Brewers yeast is rich in minerals, proteins, and B-Vitamins that combine for a powerhouse effect when applied topically to skin or hair.
